What is the NZ Master Builder Guarantee?
The Master Builder Guarantee is a comprehensive assurance that covers various aspects of your new home, including loss of deposit, non-completion, and structural defects for up to ten years. What is covered by the Master Build Guarantee?

While we recommend seeking independent legal advice to support your understanding of the guarantee, here is an overview of some of the key inclusions:

Loss of deposit
Protects against the loss of your deposit if the builder is unable to complete the building work.

Non-completion
Ensures protection if the builder cannot complete the work, covering additional costs exceeding the original contract price and any necessary remedial work on what the builder has done so far.

Materials and workmanship
Addresses issues with the standard of work or materials used.

Material performance
Offers coverage if the materials used do not perform as expected based on recognised practices or performance expectations.

Structural defects
Protects against structural issues, such as weather-tightness problems (like rot and decay) that make the home unsafe, unsanitary, or uninhabitable.

Additional costs
Covers reasonable costs for removal, storage, and alternative accommodation if the home is uninhabitable due to damage or defects, up to $10,000.
Please note that the maximum coverage for all claims during the guarantee is the value of the Building Contract, up to a limit of $1,000,000.
